UPDATE to All the travel deals! – New Travel Tip!
If you read my blog All the travel deals!, you know that back in March we found a ridiculously inexpensive flight to Tahiti through Scott’s Cheap Flights. Our original flight was from Chicago O’Hare to Tahiti for $485. This price did include 2 layovers (Minneapolis and LA) but for the price it was worth it for us. We are fortunate to live about 2 hours away from Chicago because it is a large hub and there are definitely lots of good deals to be found. Anyway, a month or two after we booked the flights we noticed that the flights got all screwed up and had us missing connections (and we got no notification from Delta). We called Delta to get it figured out. While I was on hold I was thinking how it would be great if we could fly from Madison (the small airport in the city we actually live). Normally flying from Madison would cost A LOT more but I wondered if they would work with me given the circumstances. I asked Delta if it was possible to move the flight to a different airport to which he simply asked which one. I told him Madison and after a quick search he told me it was no problem and it was no extra cost. I WAS ecstatic! This flight was already one of the best deals I have ever gotten but moving it to Madison definitely made it top the list. Then a few weeks later, the flights were moved around AGAIN and I got no notification. However, this time when I went into the app on my phone there was a message stating that there was a change to our flight and we could change it for no fee. At this point I decided to ask if I could extend the trip by a couple days. The answer was again yes.
So…moral of the story…keep an eye on your flights. From the research I’ve done (and from another recent experience with a friend on American Airlines) if your flight moves 1.5 hours or more, airlines are pretty willing to work with you on changes. Now that I know that can even mean moving to a new airport, I will DEFINITELY be trying it again in the future.
